Russia will continue to provide Palestine assistance in establishing statehood and will help in strengthening its law-enforcement structures

April 29, 2005

At the first stage of bilateral cooperation, Russia will provide aviation equipment, helicopters, communications, and invite employees of security and police bodies for training, Vladimir Putin announced at a press-conference in Ramallah after a meeting with the head of the Palestinian national authority, Mahmoud Abbas.

Without appropriate technical equipment, the Palestinian leadership will not be able to combat terrorism. To establish order on the territory, the Palestinian administration needs to possess the appropriate resources.

Russia wants Russian-Palestinian cooperation to be absolutely open and not to be cause for any concern from the Israeli side, Mr Putin stressed.
