President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President George W. Bush discussed the situation in the Middle East and confirmed the need to uphold the nuclear non-proliferation regime

The two Presidents gave instructions to their foreign ministers for a meeting of the Quartet of international mediators on the Middle East and reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring that the nuclear non-proliferation regime is respected.

Mr Putin and Mr Bush reiterated their determination to fight terrorism and stressed that there can be no flirting with terrorists.

Progress was noted on the question of Russia’s accession to the World Trade Organisation and the two sides resolved to reach an agreement on this issue by the end of the year.
