Vladimir Putin met with South Korean President Roh Moo-Hyun

May 9, 2005, The Kremlin, Moscow

During the brief talk, particular attention was given to issues of using the potential of bilateral ties to ensure peace and security on the Korean peninsula, and to establish multilateral cooperation in Northeast Asia.

The situation of the nuclear problem on the Korean peninsula was also discussed. Russia is firmly opposed to nuclear weapons appearing on the Korean peninsula and still believes it is possible and necessary for peaceful political regulation of the nuclear problem of the Korean peninsula in the framework of the six-sided process.

A priority area of cooperation is still the development of the economic component.

The leaders of the two countries also discussed the schedule for further Russian-South Korean dialogue at high level.
