Doubling GDP, eliminating poverty and modernising the army are strategic priorities for the country's development

May 18, 2005

They need to be solved consistently and gradually with all the branches of power involved, Vladimir Putin said at a meeting with senior members of both houses of parliaments that focused on how to achieve the goals set in the President’s 2004 and 2005 state of the Addresses to the Federal Assembly.

The priorities that the President set for the government and parliament include market and administrative incentives for attracting investment to the economy, higher public sector wages, increasing the authority of parliamentary political parties and representative authorities, and mass media independence.
