One of the priority issues in cooperation between Russia and NATO is the war on terrorism

At a meeting with the General Secretary of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation, Jaap de Hoop Scheffer, Vladimir Putin said he was satisfied that in this issues, the sides had moved from general declaration to specific joint work.

Russia has joined the “Joint efforts” operation held by NATO in the Mediterranean, which is directed towards preventing acts of terrorism at sea.

Work on combining military contigents, on control of airspace and on the anti-rocket problem also has major importance.

In 2005, around 200 joint events are planned in the military sphere.

Vladimir Putin proposed to activate bilateral cooperation in the war on drug trafficking – to develop a “pilot project” in training employees of the department for combating drugs in Afghanistan and Central Asia.
