President Vladimir Putin sent a telegram of condolences to Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak following the terrorist attacks in Sharm el Sheikh

July 23, 2005

The telegram reads as follows:

“I would like to express my sincere condolences following the tragic series of terrorist attacks in Sharm el Sheikh that have killed and injured many dozens of peaceful people – citizens of Egypt and other countries.

International terrorism, in committing one horrific crime after another – in Russia, Britain, Egypt and other countries – is attempting to make the civilised world live in a climate of total fear and violence. The only possible response to this challenge humanity faces is to close ranks and unite our action to counter this barbaric threat.

I am sure that at this difficult time the Egyptian people will display its greatest qualities: courage, steadfastness and strength of spirit. I ask you to pass on my most profound sympathy and words of support to the families and friends of the victims and my wishes for a speedy recovery to those who have been injured”.
