Meeting with representatives of the presidential consultative councils, President Vladimir Putin said that the Public Council should become a forum for coordination and cooperation between the many different public organisations, should help them to activate their work and contribute towards creating effective instruments for interaction between society and the authorities.

The council’s members should be people with broad public support and personal authority who are prepared for expert-level work and are as free as possible from political bias.

Mr Putin emphasised that the Public Council should become one of the fundamental structures within civil society.
