The President congratulated railway industry workers on the approaching Day of the Railworker.

The head of state noted how successful the development of the railway industry has been, and reminded of the fact that the sector presently employs 1.5 million workers.

In the last year, freight traffic increased by 8 percent, and passenger traffic by 4.7 percent, of which suburban transport accounts for 3.3 percent. In addition, the railway manufacturing industry is developing at a faster rate than the manufacturing industry as a whole.

Vladimir Putin expressed his hope that the railway sector management will pay close attention to social issues.

During the visit to the testing centre, President Putin took a ride on the new electric cargo locomotive “Ermak.”
