September 14, 2005, New York

Mr Putin was the first of the leaders of 63 countries that will sign the convention to put his signature to the document. The signing ceremony took place in the lobby on the ground floor of the United Nations headquarters.

The President arrived at the UN headquarters to take part in the jubilee session marking the sixtieth anniversary of the organisation’s creation. Like the other participants in the summit, Mr Putin was met at the entrance by UN Secretary General Kofi Annan and his spouse.
