President Vladimir Putin held a meeting with the Government Cabinet

The meeting discussed the situation regarding rising fuel prices and also looked at financing for preparations for the winter in a number of regions.

Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Zhukov reported on the inflation rate and growth in Russian companies’ capitalisation.

Health and Social Development Minister Mikhail Zurabov reported on the implementation of the Children of Russia federal targeted programme and the national project, Health.

Defence Minister Sergei Ivanov reported on the results of the joint anti-terrorist exercises held by Russia and Uzbekistan and gave information on the upcoming Russian-Indian military exercises due to take place in the Indian Ocean in October.

Mr Putin informed the cabinet on work on a draft law on parliamentary investigations that will be sent for examination to the State Duma. Under this draft law, parliamentary investigations would be conducted in cases of flagrant or mass violations of human and civil rights and liberties guaranteed by the Russian Constitution and also in the event of emergency situations arising from technological accidents.
