March 12, 2009, Gorki, Moscow Region

They discussed the social and economic situation and employment problems in the region.

The President stressed that employment should be the priority issue for the governors. He described the construction industry as one of the most important areas.

The Head of State also stressed that Russian business should concentrate on its own labour market, especially since it has so many highly qualified people.

Valery Serdyukov said that none of the investors had abandoned their investment projects in the Leningrad Region. Among them are a wood processing plant, being built by an Austrian company, a truck factory, a refinery and a cement plant. All these companies will provide a large number of highly skilled jobs.
