Broadening Russian-Ukrainian relations, especially economic ties, was the main subject of talks between President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian Prime Minister Yury Yekhanurov.

Mr Putin began by congratulating Mr Yekhanurov on his appointment to the post of Prime Minister of Ukraine and wished him success.

Earlier in the day, the President had a telephone conversation with President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko. The two Presidents discussed aspects of bilateral relations, including settling the question of simplifying border formalities for Russian and Ukrainian citizens visiting each other’s countries.
