Vladimir Putin met with the President of Tajikistan, Emomali Rakhmonov, in the Kremlin

October 6, 2005, Moscow

They discussed pressing questions of economic, political and cultural cooperation and coordinating joint efforts in the struggle against terrorism and illegal drug trafficking.

In 2004 the volume of trade between the two countries reached 400 million dollars, and surpassed the 300 million mark in the first eight months of this year. Joint infrastructural projects, in particular the construction of the Rogun and Sanktuda hydroelectric stations are being successfully implemented.

When speaking about the Central Asian Cooperation Organisation's (CACO) forthcoming summit, Emomali Rakhmonov noted that the head of the CACO has prepared a large number of agreements and expressed his hope that all these agreements will be signed.

Afterwards the heads of state opened the days of culture of Tajikistan in Russia. The opening ceremony was held at the Bolshoi Theatre. As Vladimir Putin noted, this cultural event is a unique opportunity for Russian citizens to discover modern Tajikistan, and to better understand the life of its people today.
