Meeting for a summit in St Petersburg, the heads of state of the Central Asian Cooperation Organisation (CACO) member countries adopted a decision to unite the CACO and the Eurasian Economic Community

October 7, 2005

The decision is motivated by the fact that the CACO and the Eurasian Economic Community have the same strategic objectives and missions and also by the fact that practical tasks such as creating an integrated market and pursuing hydroelectric, transport, food and other programmes that the CACO counts among its objectives are currently being resolved successfully with the framework of the Eurasian Economic Community.

President of Russia Vladimir Putin, President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rakhmonov, President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov and President of Kyrgyzstan Kurmanbek Bakiev took part in the St Petersburg summit.
