President Vladimir Putin sent telegrams of condolences to the President and Prime Minister of India following the terrorist attacks that struck the country

October 30, 2005

The telegram reads, in particular:

“We feel pain and outrage at the senseless and inhuman terrorist acts committed yesterday evening in crowded places in the Indian capital, Delhi. These bombings that have claimed dozens of lives and inflicted suffering on many innocent people took place on the eve of the joyous and pure Indian holiday of Divali which, over the course of the centuries, has celebrated the victory of good over evil. The terrorists have shown once again that nothing is sacred for them and that they are driven purely by blind malice and hatred of everything human.

We share the Indian people’s grief – a grief made even greater by the tragic consequences of the railway accident that took place in the south of the country and has caused numerous victims.”
