Vladimir Putin congratulated the presidents of Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan on the occasion of the holiday Uraza-bairam (Eid ul-Fitr)

November 3, 2005

The message reads, in particular:

“Islam's humanistic values belong to mankind's spiritual heritage. It would be difficult to overstate the Islamic civilization's contribution to the universal cultural heritage.

Over many centuries Russia, a Eurasian state, has had traditionally close ties with the Islamic world. Throughout history millions of Muslims have lived in our country. They are an intrinsic part of Russia's multinational people.

Russia's receiving the status of observer in the Islamic Conference Organization creates opportunities to expand the multifaceted dialogue with the Islamic community. I am confident that such cooperation will help solve many global and regional problems and develop cooperation in the spheres of business, culture and education.”

The head of state also sent congratulatory telegrams to all other leaders of the countries of the Islamic Conference Organization.
