Irkutsk Region holds the lead in Russia for logging, felling 21 million cubic metres of timber a year, but the region’s enterprises process only 48 percent of this volume, Mr Tishanin said.

Mr Putin instructed Mr Tishanin to hold consultations with the government, in particular with the Economic Development and Trade Ministry, on ways to activate the timber processing industry.
