At the meeting in Magadan on developing gold mining, the President pointed out some positive tendencies that are already occurring in the sector. A sound structured national gold mining market has been formed, the inflow of investments from other sectors of the economy is increasing, and the favourable external economic conditions have promoted the successful industrial development of large deposits.

Nevertheless, according to the President, today there is a gap between the industry's possibilities and the real volumes of gold mined in the country.

Vladimir Putin charged Trade and Economic Development Ministry with bringing questions concerning gold extraction and mining before the government, and also developing a joint programme of activity for the government and businesses in this sector.
