Vladimir Putin sent President of Tunisia Zine El Abidine Ben Ali a message

November 24, 2005

The message expresses satisfaction with the level of development of Russian-Tunisian relations in different areas, the steady growth of trade, and increased contacts in areas such as health services, tourism, culture and education.

The message reads, in particular:

“We value the level of political dialogue we have reached with your country, one that plays an active role in both regional and international affairs. The second phase of the World Summit on the Information Society that was successfully carried out in Tunis was evidence of this. I am confident that Russia and Tunis will continue to make important contributions to the international community's efforts to create a just, equitable, and democratic world order based on the strict observance of the norms and principles of international law and the Charter of the United Nations, in order to counteract new challenges and threats, first of all international terrorism.

We recognize that the affinity and harmony between Russian and Tunisian positions regarding a wide range of international and regional questions is a good basis for strengthening the security and stability in the Middle East and in Northern Africa.”

Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, presently in Tunisia on a visit, transmitted the message.
