Mr Putin congratulated Mr Katsav on his sixtieth birthday.

The two leaders also discussed current issues in Russian-Israeli relations and the situation with the peace process in the Middle East.

Following the terrorist act committed today in Israel, Mr Putin expressed his profound condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and his sympathy for all the victims. The President stressed that, as a country firmly opposed to terrorism, Russia thoroughly condemns this attack committed by extremists intent on undermining the peace process.
