President Vladimir Putin met with President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko

The two leaders focused mainly on topical bilateral economic cooperation issues, in particular energy sector cooperation plans over the upcoming period.

Trade issues raised by Russian and Belarussian manufacturers were also discussed.

Mr Putin and Mr Lukashenko discussed the issue of harmonising customs control activities and looked at issues regarding possible joint defence of the state border. They also examined defence cooperation.

The talks also discussed preparations for the session of the Supreme State Council that is scheduled to take place at the beginning of 2006.

The talks between the two Presidents lasted more than three hours.
