Vladimir Putin signed the Federal Law “On the Ratification of the Additional Agreement to the Agreement between the Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland on Cooperation in the Peaceful Use of Atomic Energy of 3 September 1996.”

December 20, 2005

The Additional Agreement signed on 26 June 2003 is put forward for ratification by the Government of the Russian Federation.

It provides that the British party will offer financial and technical assistance free of charge to help recycle Russian nuclear submarines that are no longer in service.

The Additional Agreement also covers cooperation in other areas linked to manipulating used nuclear fuel and nuclear waste.

In addition, the Additional Agreement provides that the British party will grant financial means, services, equipment and materials to Russian participants.

As a whole, the Additional Agreement creates favourable financial, economic and organizational conditions for the parties to cooperate in the peaceful use of atomic energy.

Ratifying the Additional Agreement is in the Russian Federation's national interests and will help increase the Russian Federation's nuclear and radiation security.
