Mr Ivanov informed the President about the successful launch of the Bulava ballistic missile, which took place this morning.
The missile was launched from the submarine Dmitry Donskoi and its warheads reached the Kura Test Ground on the Kamchatka Peninsula at the calculated time.
Mr Ivanov said he was confident that the new Bulava missile system and the submarine being built for its use would be ready for commissioning by the Russian Navy in 2008.
Mr Putin congratulated all the engineers and designers who worked on the missile system.
