Vladimir Putin signed the Decree ”On the Interdepartmental Commission of the Russian Federation Concerning the Council of Europe.”

In particular, according to the present Decree, Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Sergei Lavrov will act as Chairman of the Interdepartmental Commission of the Russian Federation Concerning the Council of Europe.

The Decree confirms the structure of the Commission that is composed of 35 people. Presidential Aide Larisa Brycheva and Deputy Foreign Minister Aleksandr Grushko became vice presidents of the Commission. Head of the International Affairs Committee of the State Duma Konstantin Kosachev, Head of the International Affairs Committee of the Federation Council Mikhail Margelov, Human Rights Commissioner for the Russian Federation Vladimir Lukin, and Representative of the Russian Federation at the European Court of Human Rights Pavel Laptev were approved as members of the Commission.

The Commission was created in 1995 as a permanent mechanism to coordinate Russia's participation in the work of the Council of Europe.
