Vladimir Putin answered journalists' questions on Russian-Ukrainian economic relations

January 6, 2006, Yakutsk

The President emphasized that the Russian side will do everything necessary to fulfil its obligations and is ready to give the Ukrainian side all the support necessary to help it solve its energy problems.

The head of state pointed out that for the first time in many years transparent and equal relations will replace the grey, muddy schemes that were neither market-based nor the interests of either government. Such relations will not only improve Russian-Ukrainian cooperation in the energy sector, they will also stabilize the energy markets in Europe and help Russia and Ukraine gain the reputation of reliable and stable partners.

Vladimir Putin thanked Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko for the decision he made concerning Russian-Ukrainian cooperation in the gas sector.
