Vladimir Putin sent greetings to Russian Muslims as they celebrate the holiday Kurban Bairam (Eid al-Adha)

January 10, 2006

The congratulations reads:

”I send greetings to Russian Muslims as you celebrate the holiday Kurban Bairam (Eid al-Adha).

This joyous holiday marks the end of Hadj, the pilgrimage to Islamic holy places. It reminds us that Islamic traditions, like those of other peaceful religions, are based on the eternal values of justice, kindness, mercy and caring for those around you, independently of their nationality or religious creed. This is especially important today, since the government and society are called to act together against any displays of extremism, tentatives to distort the essence of Islam, or attempts to use it for self-interested and aggressive purposes.

I am confident that Russian Muslims will continue to help the interconfessional dialogue develop and strengthen cooperation and good-neighbour relations between people.

I sincerely wish you peace, health, happiness and all the best. May calmness and prosperity reign in your houses.“
