President Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov

Mr Putin congratulated Mr Karimov on his birthday.

The two leaders discussed the results of the Eurasian Economic Community summit in St Petersburg and the implementation of the summit’s decisions.

Earlier, Mr Putin sent Mr Karimov a message of congratulations.

The President’s telegram of congratulations reads, in particular:

“Russia highly values the great contribution you make to deepening cooperation between our countries in all different areas. It is in great part thanks to your efforts that political, economic and humanitarian cooperation between Russia and Uzbekistan is developing rapidly and bringing significant results. Our substantial work together in regional integration organisations also opens up broad new opportunities.

I am certain that the strategic partnership and the alliance between Russia and Uzbekistan will continue to develop in the interests of the peoples of both countries.”
