Vladimir Putin held talks with Hungarian President Laszlo Solyom

February 28, 2006, Budapest

Talks began with a private meeting between the leaders of Russia and Hungary and then proceeded together with the two countries' delegations.

Vladimir Putin considers that over the last four years Russian-Hungarian relations have undergone a fundamental change. The Russian head of state thanked Laszlo Solyom for the invitation and the opportunity to discuss the prospects for bilateral relations and invited the Hungarian President to visit Russia in turn.

When making an opening address to both delegations Laszlo Solyom praised Russia's role in international politics. The President of Hungary drew attention to the many prospects that exist for bilateral cooperation, first and foremost in the trade and economic spheres.

Following the talks Vladimir Putin and Laszlo Solyom made a press statement.
