Vladimir Putin sent a greeting to those who participated in the official events surrounding the opening of an installation designed to destroy chemical weapons in Kambark, Udmurtskii Republic

March 1, 2006

The greeting reads, in particular:

“I congratulate all participants in this project, a project that is performing a major state task, establishing a heavy industry installation to destroy stocks of chemical weapons.

This large-scale project has been completed very quickly and is the result of large efforts and hard work by leading Russian academic, design and construction organizations. It is also a serious step on the way towards implementing important international agreements and obligations. It is important that work on this installation use the most modern technology available, high-tech products and stringent ecological standards. All of this will ensure that it operates in a reliable way.

I am confident that the installation that was built will allow us to resolve present-day problems concerning chemical disarmament.”
