On the Indian side's initiative, President Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with Prime Minister of India Manmohan Singh

March 4, 2006

Mr Putin and Mr Singh discussed progress on implementing the agreements reached during the Russian-Indian summit in Moscow in December 2005. The two sides noted with satisfaction the real progress made in the main trade and economic cooperation areas. A preliminary evaluation of the results achieved will be made when the Russian and Indian heads of government meet in India in mid-March.

The conversation also touched on Russia’s and India’s cooperation in civil nuclear energy and the nuclear non-proliferation issue, including in light of the talks between Russia and Iran in this area.
