For millions of people the Moscow Kremlin represents the heart of Russia and embodies Russia's cultural wealth and spiritual roots

March 7, 2006

Speaking at the ceremony for the 200 th anniversary of the Moscow Kremlin museums, the President noted that it is correct to call the Kremlin museums Russia's main treasure trove, the repository of its national relics.

People have always taken an enormous interest in the Kremlin museums. And for millions of people it is precisely the Moscow Kremlin that represents the heart of Russia and embodies its majestic power, cultural wealth and spiritual roots.

Today the treasures of the Moscow Kremlin museums, a recognized centre of world culture, are open to visitors and the museum itself is open to new projects, the President said.

The Moscow Kremlin Museum Sanctuary dates back to 10 March 1806 when Tsar Aleksandr I signed a decree that classified the Armory Museum as the first national museum with state value.
