In 2006 around 16 percent of the electricity Russia produces will come from nuclear power stations. It is necessary not only to stay at 16 percent but also to increase that number and attain the level of some European countries where nuclear energy amounts to 20 percent or more, Vladimir Putin said at a meeting on developing nuclear energy.

The President emphasized that if the industry does not develop then nuclear energy will decrease to 13 percent of the total amount of energy produced in Russia.
