President Vladimir Putin signed the Federal Law on Ratification of the United Nations Convention against Corruption

March 17, 2006

The United Nations Convention against Corruption was signed on behalf of the Russian Federation in Merida (Mexico) on December 9, 2003, and has been submitted to the State Duma for ratification by the President.

The convention establishes a comprehensive legal framework for practical cooperation between different countries’ law enforcement agencies in detecting, preventing, suppressing, solving and investigating crimes involving corruption that involve the jurisdiction and interests of two or more states. It also contains provisions for revenues gained through illegal means to be returned to their country of origin and sets out a number of standards for combating and preventing corruption.
