President Vladimir Putin signed the Federal Law on Ratification of the Agreement between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Tajikistan on Cooperation on Border Issues

March 20, 2006

The agreement was signed in Dushanbe on October 16, 2004.

The Federal Law was adopted by the State Duma on February 22, 2006, and was approved by the Federation Council on March 3, 2006.

This Federal Law proposes the ratification of the Agreement between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Tajikistan on Cooperation on Border Issues that was signed by the President of the Russian Federation and the President of the Republic of Tajikistan in Dushanbe on October 16, 2004.

The ratification of this agreement will create the legal foundation for long-term cooperation between the border protection services of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Tajikistan and will also resolve a number of questions regarding, in particular, cooperation on the protection of the external borders of members of the Commonwealth of Independent States with non-member countries, improving protection of the state border of the Republic of Tajikistan, combating illegal immigration across the state borders of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Tajikistan and combating the smuggling of arms, ammunition, poisons, explosives and radioactive materials and the trafficking of narcotics and psychotropic substances across the state border of the Republic of Tajikistan.
