At a meeting on the development of the forest and timber industries, Vladimir Putin put special emphasis on the need to modernize this sector of the economy and to make it conform to international standards.
The President cited improving the legal base, structural transformations within the branch, and establishing favourable investment conditions as factors that will help increase the competitiveness of the national timber industry.
The head of state supported the idea of establishing an action plan to severely restrict illegal wood trafficking and treatment.
Measured and balanced decisions must be taken with respect to all of these issues, declared Vladimir Putin.
