President Vladimir Putin held a meeting on the social and economic development of the Siberian Federal District

The meeting approved a decision to build the Eastern Siberian-Pacific Ocean Oil Pipeline north of the Lake Baikal basin. This decision aims at ensuring that the project is environmentally safe and excluding the risk of polluting the lake should an accident occur in the pipeline.

The meeting was attended by Trade and Economic Development Minister German Gref, Finance Minister Alexei Kudrin, Transport Minister Igor Levitin, Natural Resources Minister Yury Trutnyev, Industry and Energy Minister Viktor Khristenko, Regional Development Minister Vladimir Yakovlev, Plenipotentiary Presidential Envoy to the Siberian Federal District Anatoly Kvashnin and the heads of the 15 Siberian regions.

Also invited to the meeting were President of Transneft Company Semyon Vainshtok, head of Russian Railways Company Vladimir Yakunin and President of the Russian Academy of Sciences Yury Osipov.
