Speaking at a meeting on social and economic development in the Siberian Federal District, President Vladimir Putin said that the construction and operation of the Eastern Siberia-Pacific Ocean Pipeline must exclude even minimal risk of polluting Lake Baikal.

The President said he is convinced of the need to go ahead rapidly with the pipeline project because it will create absolutely new infrastructure opportunities for developing Eastern Siberia and open up entry to promising energy resources export markets.
