President Vladimir Putin viewed new developments by scientists and specialists at the Tomsk Technology Incubation Zone

April 26, 2006, Tomsk

Mr Putin visited the Tomsk Technology Incubation Zone, which is located on the territory of joint-stock company TomskNeftekhim. The President viewed a number of the newest developments to emerge from work by Russian scientists and companies.

General Director of TomskNeftekhim Leonid Reznikov, for example, informed the President about the latest developments in high-molecular polymers.

Also demonstrated were the newest automated management systems, orders for which have already been placed by major Russian companies such as Gazprom and Transneft.

Mr Putin was interested in developments in nanotechnology, especially in the latest water purification technology developed by scientists at the Siberian Division of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The scientists have developed a water filter that provides 100-percent protection against viruses and bacteria. The material used in the filter is based on nanofibres and could have applications in the pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, medicine and semiconductors sectors, in the chemicals industry and in household use.

The President showed particular interest in an exhibition on the use of the latest technology in Russian education.
