President Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with U.S. President George W. Bush

May 1, 2006

The two Presidents discussed bilateral issues in the context of the upcoming summit in St Petersburg in July 2006 and expressed satisfaction with the implementation of the agreements reached during Mr Putin’s visit to Washington in September 2005, and during subsequent contacts.

Both sides noted in particular the progress achieved in developing anti-terrorist cooperation. The two Presidents also discussed cooperation on current international issues, including on the Iranian nuclear issue, which will be the subject of numerous consultations at various levels over the coming days.

The conversation took place at the U.S. side’s initiative.
