President Vladimir Putin signed the Federal Law on Ratification of the Treaty on an Alliance between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Uzbekistan

May 11, 2006

The federal law ratifies the Treaty on an Alliance between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Uzbekistan signed in Moscow on November 14, 2005.

The Treaty reflects the current stage in relations between Russia and Uzbekistan and cements the international-legal principle of an alliance as the basis for cooperation between the two countries.

The Treaty was concluded in the aims of strengthening peace and increasing stability and national, regional and international security on the basis of coordinated efforts and joint work by the Parties to remove threats that arise and develop and consolidate political, economic, trade and humanitarian cooperation in accordance with international law, with the present Treaty, and with earlier bilateral and multilateral agreements.

The Treaty’s entry into force will contribute to strengthening Russia’s and Uzbekistan’s military-political and economic positions in the Central Asian region.

A day earlier President Vladimir Putin signed the Federal Law on Ratification of the Treaty on an Alliance between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Uzbekistan.
