The level of corruption in Russia is inadmissibly high

May 13, 2006

At a meeting with the heads and members of the Russian State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company on the occasion of its 15th anniversary, Vladimir Putin declared that the latest resignations and changes within the customs agencies are the result of a long and purposeful study by law enforcement agencies, first and foremost by the FSB and customs' own internal security services.

The President pointed out that the level of corruption in Russia is inadmissibly high and the struggle against corruption is not effective enough. And that the struggle against corruption should not be limited to the field of customs procedures.

The head of state also emphasized that corruption is not a uniquely Russian problem and that it is a problem in many countries of the world. However, it does not mean that we must not fight against it, the President said.
