Vladimir Putin met with the President of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbaev

The main themes of the negotiations were economic cooperation and trade, as well as Russia and Kazakhstan’s cooperation within organizations that promote integration, first and foremost within the Eurasian Economic Community and the Common Economic Space. They also looked at issues connected with both countries’ participation in the work of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

According to the decision made by the Council of the heads of state members of the Commonwealth in August 2005 at the summit in the Kazan, President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbaev received the official presidency of the Council of the CIS member states. All the members of the Commonwealth participated in the formal procedure associated with signing the corresponding decision. Today the presidents of Russia and Kazakhstan put the final signatures on the document.

Russia and Kazakhstan agreed on joint steps to develop gas reserves and gas deliveries from Kazakhstan. Vladimir Putin pointed out the positive tendencies in the development of relations with Kazakhstan, first and foremost with respect to the customs union.

They reached arrangements on cooperation in developing both governments’ armed forces, in the energy sector, and in the military and technological spheres, whereby Kazakhstan will purchase Russian military equipment.

The first deputy Prime Minister Dmitrii Medvedev and the deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov both took part in the meeting.

Following the talks Vladimir Putin and Nursultan Nazarbaev made press statements.
