One of the summit’s main themes was Russian-EU cooperation in the energy sector. They discussed a wide range of problems, ranging from developing the four common spaces to major international problems that affect both global and regional stability and security.

Agreements to simplify visa procedures for Russian and EU citizens and on readmission were signed in the presence of the President of Russia, President of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso, Secretary General of the Council of the European Union and High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy Javier Solana, and Federal Chancellor of Austria Wolfgang Schuessel. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov signed the documents for the Russian side.

A press conference was held following the Russia-EU summit.
