Vladimir Putin signed the federal law 'On the Entry into Force of the Water Code of the Russian Federation'

June 5, 2006

The federal law stipulates that the Water Code of the Russian Federation will come into effect 1 January 2007.

The federal law provides that the licenses and agreements that concern using water sources and are issued or concluded before 1 January 2007 will remain in effect until they expire. At the same time water users will also have the possibility to renew the said documents – agreements or decisions concerning water usage – as is provided for in the Water Code.

The law also contains measures designed to implement the requirements of the Water Code of the Russian Federation. For example, parcels of land that contain ponds and irrigated areas that are the property of the federal government, regions and municipalities are being catalogued.
