Nuclear energy is an important resource for national economic growth, Mr Putin said, calling for the realisation of a programme to increase the share of nuclear energy in national energy output from 16 percent to 25 percent.

The President said that the reliability of Russia’s nuclear shield is a crucial component in ensuring the country’s security and ensuring its status of world power. Mr Putin also noted the need to increase security in the nuclear sector.

Officials from the Defence Ministry and the Federal Nuclear Energy Agency took part in the meeting.
