President Vladimir Putin made a working visit to the Udmurt Republic

June 21, 2006

In Izvesk, the capital of Udmurtiya, the Russian head of state held a meeting on topical agricultural problems and the role of modern technology in ensuring the development of the agro-industrial complex. At the meeting they examined the possibilities of introducing modern technology into the country’s agro-industrial sector, strengthening market mechanisms within agricultural production, and attracting additional investments to Russian agriculture. Vladimir Putin stated that implementing the priority national project in agriculture is one of the most effective ways to modernize the agricultural sector of the economy. At present credit agreements amounting to 100 billion rubles and designed to construct and modernize animal-breeding grounds have been signed within the national project on agriculture. Another 11 billion rubles have been allocated towards individual farms.

Following the meeting Vladimir Putin held a working meeting with the President of Udmurtiya, Aleksandr Volkov. One of the meeting’s main topics was the fact that the oil company TNK BP sold its shares in Udmurtneft to Sinopec, a Chinese oil company. Along with this they reached an agreement that Udmurtneft will be managed by the Russian company Rosneft.

At the end of his trip Vladimir Putin visited a museum devoted to the world-renowned small arms designer, Mikhail Kalashnikov.
