Mr Abbas informed Mr Putin in detail on the situation with Palestinian-Israeli relations in regard to the crisis that has been unfolding since the abduction of an Israeli soldier and the Israeli Armed Forces’ subsequent launching of military operations.
Mr Abbas thanked Mr Putin for Russia’s efforts to resolve the crisis and get peaceful dialogue back on track.
Mr Putin said that Russia would continue taking steps and doing all it could to help normalise the situation in the Palestinian territories as soon as possible.
The telephone conversation took place following Mr Putin’s meeting with Israeli First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni.
