Addressing the summit, Mr Putin called on religious leaders to organise a dialogue between religions in order to counter the ideologues of extremism who manipulate believers’ feelings.

The President also called for people of different religious traditions to come closer together in their views.

Mr Putin noted the important part religious leaders play in uniting peoples, and expressed the hope that the summit would address not just theological questions but also current issues facing the world.
