The meeting took place a day before the Russian State Council is due to meet to discuss cooperation mechanisms between the federal and regional authorities to develop comprehensive social and economic regional development programmes. Mr Khloponin heads the State Council working group on this issue.
Mr Putin and Mr Khloponin also discussed preparations for the merger of Krasnoyarsk Region and the Taimyr and Evenkia Autonomous Districts.
