President Vladimir Putin ratified the Protocol on Uzbekistan's Accession to the Eurasian Economic Community

July 26, 2006

The Protocol on Uzbekistan’s Accession to the Founding Treaty of the Eurasian Economic Community was signed in St Petersburg on January 25, 2006, and ratified by the Russian parliament on July 14, 2006.

The Protocol creates the legal base for Uzbekistan’s full participation in the Eurasian Economic Community and commits it in full to the rights and obligations set out in the Founding Treaty of the Eurasian Economic Community of October 10, 2000.

With Uzbekistan’s accession to the Eurasian Economic Community the decision-making and financing procedures within the organisation have been changed. The contributions made by each member country to the organisation’s budget have been adjusted to take into account Uzbekistan’s membership, as has the number of votes accorded to each member country.

Uzbekistan’s share of contributions to the budget and number of votes have been set by reducing the budget contributions and number of votes of Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.

Russia’s contribution to the budget (40 percent) and number of votes (40) remain unchanged.
